    Gesang Martohartono was born in Surakarta, Central Java, on 1 October 1917 , and die on 20 May 2010  recognized as the best  Indonesian songwriter especially for Keroncong Music Genre. His masterpiece creation is Bengawan Solo, a Keroncong song that not only renowned in Indonesia, but also in Asia, especially in Japan. This song already translated to at least 13 languages.

    Song of Bengawan Solo (Bengawan Solo is name of a big river in Java Island) created in 1940, when he was 23 years old. The song was created on the riverbank, he inspired not only by the river and its habit but also by correlation with the people surrounding. When he created the song Indonesia was under control by Japan Military Government.
