    Biography of Johann Kaspar Bluntschli

    Johann Kaspar Bluntschli (1808–1881) was a Swiss lawyer and statesman known for his contributions to military and international law. He was born on March 7, 1808, in Zurich. Bluntschli received his education at the Institute of Politics in Zurich, as well as the universities of Berlin and Bonn.

    Early Career and Political Activism

    In 1830, Bluntschli began his political career as a supporter of constitutional reform. He was appointed a professor of law at the University of Zurich in 1833. In 1837, he was elected as a member of the Great Council of Zurich, and in 1844, he became its president.
